New Audi A7

The unveiling of the new Audi A7 sees the company making an entrance into a new niche market. They are hoping that the new A7 will compete with Mercedes and BMW in the four-door coupe department. In an attempt to convince viewers of its intentions Audi chose the Museum of Modern Art in Munich to show off their latest creation, thus emphasising its stylish and artistic design.

The shape is part historical, part aerodynamics; the efficient sweptback Sportback profile is typical of the four-door coupe design. There are elements of the Audi A8 in the grille and the A5 front end has also been influential. The rear closes to a spoiler that rises at higher speeds and the lighting rigs and bumpers include the now commonplace running lights.

The new Audi A7’s interior is pure class; spacious and luxurious throughout. Possessing the usual high quality Audi finishes it has the look of a stately limo with real wood, brushed aluminium and leather. The controls are state of the art, a 6.5-inch display panel keeps the driver informed of sat-nav, climate control and phone operations while there is also the option of having a heads up display on the windscreen.

There are four engine types available but the most economical and carbon friendly is the 3.0 litre TDI and with emission rates of 135 g/km and 53.3 mpg it proves to be a cost effective car. Much of this is achieved through both the design and the 20% lightweight aluminium used in construction, which makes is a responsive and easy car to drive.
