Panthermobile And Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Up For Sale

Two iconic screen cars are set to go up for auction in September; the exceedingly rare one and only original pink panther car and a fully licenced replica of the legendary Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

The Panthermobile is a true rarity, a one off creation for the NBC television series created in 1969. Designed by Hollywood’s master vehicle designer Jay Ohrberg who is also credited with the creation of a number of other famous film and television vehicles including: Knight rider’s KITT, the Back To The Future DeLorean, Dukes of Hazzard’s General Lee, The 1966 & 1989 Batmobiles and Fred Flinstone’s car to name but a few.

The Panthermobile has only ever come up for auction once before in June 2007 when it was sold for £88,000 through COYS by Ohrberg himself. In totally original condition it is said that the vehicle would benefit from sympathetic restoration, unsurprising being that it is 42 years old. The engine is not currently working but it is believed to have been so when it was sold back in 2007. Fancy owning this one of a kind Pink Panther car? It has an estimate of £50,000 to £100,000.

The replica Chitty Chitty Bang Bang began life as a labour of love for creator Tony green. The car is true to the original in every way and is the result of three years of meticulous and painstaking hard work.

Chitty will be sold with all history of her creation including receipts, blueprints MOT’s and photographs. Road legal and registered with the DVLA as Chitty Chity Bang Bang on the plate GEN 22 this car is bound to cause a stir wherever it goes.

Mr Green owned the car until 2007 when it was acquired by a private collector. With a guide price of £150,000 to £250,000 it makes the Panthermobile look cheap, but 1 of the original 6 Chitty Chitty Bang Bangs used in the film recently came up for sale with an estimate of 1 to 2 million dollars!

Both cars are due to appear Chelsea Auto legends show on Sunday 4th of September when the online auction begins. The auction is run by Robson and Kay via Bidspotter and ends on Friday 14th of October at 13:00 hours.
