As we know Restoration projects are ongoing throughout the year and checking them out needs no excuse. This year is also a great year for hot rod events and there is one particular restoration project we’re hoping might feature at one of the events.
For a few months now we’ve been following a restoration project over on Cherished Vehicle Insurance (see here). A young restorer going by the name of Mike Hill has been busy converting a 1935 Ford Model Y into a Pick-up hot rod. We know it’s not finished yet but we’re sure it’s not far from being complete. It would be great to see the final model live in the ‘flesh’ but at which event.
We’ve taken a look at some of the events we’re excited about this year.
Silverstone Classic 2014
Is there any other event that we can start on – probably not! Whilst it is not a hot rod specific event, you will find some great custom motors there. From 25th to the 27th July Silverstone, Britain’s most famous track, will be awash with an exceptional array of exotic, rare, and valuable race cars, competing in 20 races over the course of the three days.
It’s a great day out for all the family too with lots of other activities and things to do.
Hot Rod Hayride
If you don’t fancy a trip to the busy Silverstone Classic, the same weekend sees the Hot Rod Hayride take place in Brookwood, Surrey and this year marks the tenth anniversary since it began.
The Shakedown
The Shakedown is a proper, classic American- themed 1950s event taking place in Dursley. Everything keeps the same style, especially the cars. It runs from the 18th to the 21st July.
Phantom’s Family Hot Rod Weekend
Before the Silverstone Classic is the Phantom’s Family Hot Rod Weekend at Bridgehaugh Park, Stirling on the 18th to the 20th July. This weekender is dedicated to hot rods, ‘kustoms’ and classics of all types and is a must for the seasoned restorer or follower of these models.
South Staffs Hot Rod Show
Right at the end of July this festival wows visitors with an extensive array of motors of all different ilks.
Doncaster Roadrunner
Moving into August, we have picked out the Doncaster Roadrunner festival on the 8th to the 10th. This event embodies everything about a classic hot rod show, with live music, activities and of course, lots of classic cars. It’s actually at this event that we thought the restoration of the Ford Model Y would be most suitable for. We’re just not sure if it will be ready in time!
Blood, Sweat and Gears
We had to give this event a mention based on the name of it alone. It’s at The Coach House, Warlingham, Surrey CR6 9PB on 10th August. So if you’re not off to Donny, check this out. What a name!
The Trip Out
September 5th to the 7th sees a cracking festival celebrating all things rock and custom. It has a great line-up of live bands and welcomes custom vehicles of all shapes and sizes.
NSRA Hot Rod Drags
There are numerous NSRA events over the course of the year but we have picked this out in September from the 12th to the 14th at Shakespeare County Raceway in Stratford-upon-Avon. A huge collection of hot rods, custom cars and classic cars are on show.
After September the events begin to dry up, although the one day event, Whitby Kustoms on November 1st is probably worth a look – even if the weather isn’t favourable. So start filling your diary with a few weekends now!
