Rolls-Royce has launched its new drop-dead gorgeous drophead – the Dawn.
Torsten Mueller-Oetvoes, Chief Executive Officer of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, summed up the Dawn saying it’s “the sexiest Rolls-Royce ever built”.
The unveiling of the Rolls-Royce Dawn was also the first time the company has launched a new car digitally.
The Dawn uses the same twin-turbo 6.6-litre V12 as the Ghost, enabling it to hit an electronically-limited top speed of 155mph and 0-62mph in 4.9sec.
Rolls-Royce also went to pains to stress that it is not a “Wraith drophead” – 80% of its exterior body panels are new.
The Goodwood-based luxury carmaker is naturally proud of the roof, which operates in almost total silence in 22 seconds at speeds of up to 30mph, making it “the quietest open top car ever made”.
Taking its inspiration from the Silver Dawn – a famous and rare Rolls-Royce name that was only ever applied to 28 very special drophead bodies between 1950 and 1954, the car is set to go on sale early next year, priced at about £250,000.
“Our new Rolls-Royce Dawn promises a striking, seductive encounter like no other Rolls-Royce to date, and begins a new age of open-top, super-luxury motoring,” adds says Torsten Mueller-Oetvoes.
“Dawn is a beautiful new motor car that offers the most uncompromised open-top motoring experience in the world. It will be the most social of super-luxury drophead motor cars for those who wish to bathe in the sunlight of the world’s most exclusive social hotspots.”
