Car maintenance

New research by a leading UK online car garage and repair marketplace has revealed the top five most common components that have to be repaired.

According to data from WhoCanFixMyCar.com, brakes, batteries, wheel alignment, cambelts and exhausts top the list of popular jobs.

More than half of respondents said they’ve had to replace their brakes, while a quarter have had to have their car’s wheel alignment corrected.

Nearly half (47%) said they would go into debt in order to repair their car.

The research also reveals that the average repair cost for clutch replacement, the most expensive repair in the UK, sits at £750.54.

The second most expensive repair is timing chains, with an average cost of £578.38, followed by gearbox repairs, which have an average cost of £570.96. Cambelt repairs cost, on average, £332.91 in the UK.
