Europe’s Top 20 biggest-selling new cars

Volkswagen Golf

The Ford Fiesta has long been the most popular new car in the UK, but have you ever wondered what are the biggest-selling cars in Europe?

We’ve scanned through the data for 2018, supplied by automotive analysts JATO Dynamics, to reveal what’s hot and what’s not on the continent.

The headline news was that the European car market was stable during 2018. A total of 15.6 million vehicles were registered – just 346 more than in 2017 – making Europe the world’s third largest car market behind China and the US.

There was little change at the top of the car maker leaderboard, with the VW Group maintaining its position at the top, recording 3.72 million registrations and a stable market share at 23.8%, while PSA (Peugeot/Citroen/DS, Opel/Vauxhall) and Renault-Nissan once again came in second and third, respectively. BMW Group climbed the rankings to become Europe’s fourth largest car maker.
